Lustrous silver-gray surfaces with touches of champagne and gold hues. 430,000 minted with very few high grade survivors.

An exceptionally well struck coin from a date that often displays a weak strike. The surfaces are wonderfully original with rich satiny luster and a faint blue-green hue, especially on the reverse. A scarce coin in this high of grade with just 13 examples grading numerically finer at PCGS.

A well detailed and attractive example of this better date.

The U.S. Assay Office was located in San Francisco and was the forerunner of what would become the San Francisco Mint. They struck $10, $20 and $50 gold coins. This beautiful ‘Twenty’ is sharply struck with minimal abrasions and vibrant yellow-gold mint luster.
