CAC. Capped Die. A Gem for the grade with strong detail, no heavy marks, and lustrous original silver-gray surfaces.
CAC. Scarce in any grade with a mintage of just 17,281. Most surviving examples are well worn. This is a nice original XF+ with solid detail and outstanding choice problem-free surfaces.
Capped Die. Sharply struck with thick frosty luster. Cream-white surfaces display a little champagne-gold along the periphery. High grade ‘Capped Dies’ are considerably scarcer than the ‘Perfect CC’s’ as the later was heavily represented in the GSA hoard.
A ‘perfect CC’ example with light gray surfaces and noticeable underlying luster.
Perfect CC. Frosty white luster and a sharp strike with just a touch of ‘rub’.
Capped Die. Very nice for the grade with a strong strike and attractive cream-white surfaces.
Reverse of 1878. Brilliant white surfaces with subtle touches of gold on the reverse. The luster is strong and the strike is razor-sharp. An attractive example and very desirable.
Incredibly intense booming white mint luster radiates while touches of violet-gold cling to the periphery. The strike is needle-sharp and Ms. Liberty’s cheek is virtually mark-free. A nearly flawless and absolutely amazing dollar.
Reverse of 1878. Sharply struck with flashy mostly white luster and splashes of champagne-gold color primarily along the peripheral areas. The design elements are frosted and the eye appeal is outstanding!
