R-5. Similar to the regular issue Three Cent-Nickel design except a Roman numeral V replaces the III on the reverse. Also a Maltese cross and a scroll inscribed IN GOD WE TRUST is above the wreath. Struck is nickel with a plain edge. This is a Gem brilliant example with nicely frosted design features.

Just 4,500 business strikes for 1869 and very few have survived, especially in high grade. This is a beautiful example with original surfaces that display frost on the design and delicate toning. The strike is exceptionally sharp and surfaces are semi proof-like.
