Small Date. This coin displays even wear with strong remaining detail. Surfaces exhibit a deep, natural chocolate-brown patina with darker olive and steel-brown undertones. Minor marks and faint surface roughness are typical for early copper and fully consistent with the grade, with no major distractions to eye appeal.  

Overton-101a. 50C/UNI. A popular Redbook variety. The engraver misplaced the UNI of UNITED and then placed the denomination over the UNI rather than discarding the expensive die.

E/A. A lustrous light silver-gray example of this popular variety. The remnants of an A are visible under the E of STATES.

Well detailed with pleasing light gray surfaces and die clashing on both sides.

Overton 108a. E/A. A sharply detailed example with strong luster and attractive clean surfaces. The E over A error is clearly visible on the E of STATES on the reverse. Liberty’s curls and the eagle’s feathers retain excellent detail on this high-end AU representative of this popular variety.

Overton-101a. A popular variety as the top bar of the 3 is clearly seen beneath the 4 in the date. This is a lustrous example with solid detail and pleasing silver-white surfaces.

Union Bank of Maryland. Counterfeit. Comment: Stains. A contemporary counterfeit of a rare early Baltimore obsolete. Stains in the upper right are not significant and blend in well.
