The fields are exceptionally clean for the issue, and the strike is bold across Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s feathers. Premium eye appeal and quality place this piece firmly at the high end of the assigned grade.

Black Eagle. Fr. 229a was the first issue where the “Series Of 1899” was placed vertically at the right inside frame line and is the scarcest non-star issue in the series. Nice original bright color with vibrant silk fibers. Very tough in any uncirculated grade.
