Black Eagle. Fr. 229a was the first issue where the “Series Of 1899” was placed vertically at the right inside frame line and is the scarcest non-star issue in the series. Nice original bright color with vibrant silk fibers. Very tough in any uncirculated grade.

Very well balanced borders capture bold black and blue inks on the front and intense green ink on the back. The paper is snow white and premium. A liberal scattering of security threads are a delightful sight.
A superb Gem example displaying vibrant golden luster and sharply struck design elements throughout. Liberty’s portrait is boldly defined with crisp hair detail, while the reverse eagle and shield exhibit excellent feather detail and satiny surfaces.
