Well struck with lustrous yellow-gold surfaces and a popular Civil War date. Just 5,000 minted with far fewer high grade survivors than the low mintage dates of the 1880’s.

Excellent color pops against a background of paper that has only seen light to moderate even wear. Margins are more than ample and nicely balanced. The vignette of President Abraham Lincoln at left is pleasing and quickly catches the eye.

R-3. Regular issue dies with a plain edge, but struck in bronze rather than the regular issue copper-nickel. Thin planchet variety struck with medallic alignment. This was the Mint’s first time to experiment with bronze. This sharply struck example blends a considerable amount of mint red with soft brown toning.
