A pleasing early gold eagle with solid detail and remnant luster.

The U.S. Assay Office was located in San Francisco and was the forerunner of what would become the San Francisco Mint. They struck $10, $20 and $50 gold coins. This beautiful ‘Twenty’ is sharply struck with minimal abrasions and vibrant yellow-gold mint luster.

R-4. Octagonal Liberty Head. Reverse eagle is perched on an arrow with glory rays above. This bird looks more like a Peacock than an eagle, thus the nickname for the variety. Sharply struck with choice original surfaces.
