From the first year the U.S. Mint struck gold coinage, just 5,583 were minted and an estimated 500 have survived. This example exhibits strong detail with minimal circulation wear and pleasing surfaces that retain a trace of mint luster. Minor adjustments marks, as made, are seen at 11:00 at the obverse rim, but otherwise the surfaces are devoid of distracting marks. A nice opportunity to acquire one of the foundational rarities of American numismatics!
