This is an 1836 First Steam Coinage U.S. Mint Medal, Julian MT-21. It commemorates the introduction of steam-powered coinage at the Philadelphia Mint, with the distinctive steam press on the obverse and “FIRST STEAM COINAGE / MAR. 23” reverse. The piece has pleasing chocolate-brown surfaces with strong remaining detail and an attractive, evenly aged appearance. An important early U.S. Mint medal with considerable historical significance.
