These were the first coins struck from a new steam press installed at the Mint in late 1836. A mere 5,000 were minted. This is a well-preserved example showing strong detail and attractive, light- gray surfaces. Liberty’s portrait retains clear hair curls and defined stars, while the reverse eagle displays bold wing and shield elements with only moderate circulation wear. A solid, problem-free example.
