The surfaces display attractive original golden color with just light wear and no distracting abrasions. The design remains well defined, with strong detail visible in Liberty’s hair and the eagle. The 1839-C is especially desirable as the only Liberty Head year that the Charlotte mint mark appears on the obverse, making this a popular one-year design type among Southern branch mint gold collectors.
