CAC. R-4. The famous “coin without a country”. In 1859, the Mint decided to move UNITED STATES OF AMERICA from the reverse to the obverse of Seated coinage. Transitional patterns were struck in 1859 and 1860 combining a Stars obverse with a new larger wreath reverse. However, both these strikings forgot to include the name of our country! This is a lovely example with vibrant lustrous surfaces that are bright and light gold in the center with attractive toning that strengthens as you move to the borders. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Old green label holder.
