A Civil War date and one of the great rarities in the series with just 1,270 minted. Only 30 to 40 survivors are known. This PCGS AU58 example is sharply detailed with only light friction on the high points, retaining considerable original mint luster. The surfaces are attractive and problem-free, displaying a rich, even yellow-gold coloration with subtle deeper accents. Well struck overall, with bold definition in Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s feathers. PCGS has graded just one other AU-58 and two coins finer – both MS-61.
