A handsome Civil War–era Proof with strong visual appeal. Sharply struck throughout, the devices rise crisply from reflective fields that retain much original brilliance. Subtle silver-gray toning softens the mirrors and enhances contrast across Liberty’s figure and the eagle reverse.

Wonderful original surfaces are highly reflective with frosted fully struck design features. Iridescent turquoise, silver, and rose toning enhance this coins fantastic eye appeal. A scarce Civil War issue that saw a mere 460 proofs struck. Housed in an old green label holder.

R-7. Struck from the regular obverse die, and paired with the regular reverse die of 1866 with the motto above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is a sharply struck specimen with a deep cobalt-blue, golden-brown, and forest-green patina.
