With a mintage of just 54,454 coins, the 1801 dollar is a challenging issue in any grade. This example stands out with strong detail for the grade, balanced toning, and an honest appearance free from distracting marks.

Overton 101. Attractive silver-gray surfaces, well detailed, and devoid of significant marks. A desirable example of this scarce date which saw a mintage of just 29,880.

CAC. Reverse of 1802. All 1802 half cents are overdates with the O clearly seen below the 2 of the date. They are also very scarce and truly rare when found in decent grades and problem-free. The vast majority of known coins are ‘rough’, to say the least. They are also unknown in mint state. […]

A lovely example of this very clear overdate. The underlying 1 sits boldly beneath the primary 2 in the date. The surfaces are choice and original. They’re a pleasing light coin-gray with some darker gray toning at the bottom of the obverse. The design features are bold and minimal marks are insignificant and well hidden.

Large 3. Solid detail with surfaces that blend light silver-gray shades. Traces of mint luster remain on both obverse and reverse.

Small Stars Reverse. A better date with a mintage of 15,017 which includes both the large and small star variants. This is a nice original example with strong detail and minimally abraded surfaces.
