A well struck and very attractive coin from the first year of the Dahlonega Mint. Liberty’s portrait remains well defined, with clear facial features and hair detail for the grade, while the reverse eagle shows strong definition in the wings, shield, and talons. Even wear and rich, original gold color contribute to the coin’s pleasing overall appearance.  The only year Classic Head ‘Fives’ were struck at this branch mint and the D mintmark is found on the obverse of the coin.
