This scarce date saw a mintage of 34,500 which was the 5th highest in the series. However, they saw heavy usage resulting in a low survival rate of mostly well-worn coins. Mint state examples are truly rare. This specimen, graded PCGS MS62+, offers satiny golden luster and strong overall detail. Liberty’s portrait displays sharp feather definition on the headdress and clear hair strands, while the reverse wreath of agricultural staples remains bold with the prominent S mintmark beneath. Light marks are present, but they are consistent with the grade and overshadowed by the coin’s vibrant, original surfaces and eye appeal. Just 8 coins have graded finer at PCGS.
