Satiny luster glows beneath gunmetal-blue toning, with lighter highlights bringing out the king’s finely detailed hair and beard. Scattered small contact marks are consistent with the Choice Mint State grade and leave the portrait well presented. A sharp strike also defines the crown, shield, and elaborate royal mantle on the reverse, giving this Hawaiian dollar considerable visual interest.  Quite scarce in mint state as 500,000 were minted, but the vast majority were melted after Hawaii became a U.S. territory in 1900.
