This is possibly the most famous of all twentieth century errors and the majority of them were found in cigarette packs as change in 1955. Cigarettes cost twenty-three cents in 1955 and vending machines accepted quarters but weren’t equipped to give change. So two Lincoln Cents were slipped into the cellophane packaging as change. For whatever reason, these coins tarnished quickly and mint red examples are rare today. This is a beautiful example with blazing red luster, few abrasions, and no significant spots. The finest graded at PCGS are two MS-65+ coins and they would almost certainly bring $250K+ if they crossed the auction block today. This coin is very close to that quality at a fraction of the price.
